You better be running…

Another great quote from my recent favorite leadership book: Just Ask Leadership : Why Great Managers Always Ask the Right Questions

Every day in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows that it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you better be running. –ABE GUBEGNA, ETHIOPIA, CIRCA 1974

Andy Grove covered a similar thought in his book Only The Paranoid survive. To me this means that you have to keep honing your craft and executing. Whether you are on top and trying to stay there or an up and comer trying to make a name for yourself you have to wake up everyday and compete.
